Global risks are risks to all humanity: extinction risk, and the risk of failure to reach our greatest potential. Small reductions in global risk are possible and have been accomplished. Subtracting even one in a million from extinction risk has an expected value (probability times value) of > 7 billion (Earth population) times 1/1,000,000 = 7,000 lives. Increasing our probability of colonizing the galaxy gives even larger numbers.
